How Wheatbelt Equine Therapies came to be!

I'm Samantha McClements, owner and creator of Wheatbelt Equine Therapies. I have always loved horses. At a young age, my parents sent me to horse camp, hoping that I'd come back hating horses, but I became absolutely obsessed with them! Leading into horse riding lessons, leased my first little Welsh pony, and joined a pony club, show jumping, cross country, and dressage.

My first horse, Troy, came when I was sixteen, moving to the Wheatbelt to go to Agriculture High School where I learnt Certificate II in Agriculture and Equine Course Certificate II In Racing, with this transition I had to learn some massage techniques for my horse as he had an injury to his back where I spent a few months rehabbing him, once rehab finished we went into hacking and competing in agriculture shows. After that, I knew that in the future that was what I was aiming to do as my goal.

Meeting my horse, Judo, at agriculture school when he was 6 months old. When we first saw each other, it was love at first sight; we had a connection that was one in a million. When he got older, we have been doing endurance riding and also creating a way to keep him fit while doing Day/night shift, on a rotating roster! I love endurance riding it's a time when I can get away with my boy for the weekend and enjoy a ride that keeps us fit and working together.

After year 12, I went into tafe for Certificate IV of Veterinary Nursing, completing the course. I spent a few years in the vet industry, learning about different animals and looking after horses after procedures/injuries.

In the background, I have been learning Equine Sports Massage Therapy to work beside owners and their horses, to be a reliable therapist to those in need.

In the Wheatbelt, I know first-hand how hard it is to find someone who will come out, show up and understand the care needed for horses.

Find us on Facebook or Instagram to stay tuned, as I will be adding blogs, plus many more exciting things, shortly to this website!
